Mix dry ingredients — In a large bowl, combine maize meal, flour, salt, sugar, and yeast.
Add liquids — Pour in warm water and oil, then mix until a soft dough forms.
Knead the dough — Knead for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
Let it rise — Cover the bowl with a clean cloth and leave in a warm place for 45–60 minutes, or until doubled in size.
Prepare steaming setup — Grease a metal or enamel bowl, place the dough inside, and cover tightly with foil.
Steam the bread — Put the bowl in a large pot with about 2 cups of boiling water. Cover the pot and steam for 1½–2 hours, checking occasionally to ensure water doesn’t dry out.
Cool and serve — Once cooked, remove from the pot and let it cool slightly before slicing.
